ROY HARRIS
BJJ SEMINAR
TAKE A DEEP DIVE WITH A BJJ PIONEER INTO The heart and soul of BJJ - The Guard POsition
What immediately sets Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu apart from all other grappling styles is the Guard. What looked like magic in the early Ultimate Fighting Championships was Royce Gracie’s ability to control bigger, heavier, stronger opponents from his back – where most grappling arts consider you “losing” or “pinned.”
Known for his innovative training methods and meticulous attention to detail, 7th degree Black Belt and BJJ Legend Roy Harris returns to Connecticut for the first time since 2022 to present his newest methods for developing a high level of skill at controlling from the Guard position – in both Gi and No-Gi training. World-renowned as a “teacher’s teacher” in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (as well as in Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts), Professor Harris is one of the first Americans to receive the rank of Coral Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – come see for yourself why!

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Hear from Roy Harris himself about how he trains students to develop a high level of skill quickly:
“Great guard control IS NOT what you do with your legs! In other words, IT’S NOT about the circles, hooks, pushes and lifts you do with your legs and feet. Rather, it’s something much simpler and more efficient!
“No specific guard will be emphasized, rather, there are elements of guard control found in all guards that must be developed and focused on in order for skills to be developed quickly. Without this emphasis, all students will focus on are ‘techniques’ – which are very limiting.
“These elements “will lay a foundation for all of the “cool” open guard stuff (e.g. spider, de la riva, butterfly, and one-legged guards) in months to come. NOTICE I never said anything about “techniques.” This is because technique training is not primary – it is secondary at best, more like tertiary.”
